We're here to help

Anyone can find themselves in difficult circumstances at any time, but at Cornerstone, we’re here to help.

We run a foodbank twice a week at our Wigton base.  We don’t just offer food but hope to be able to ‘signpost’ you to some free advice that will help your situation.

How we can help

We are part of The North Lakes Foodbank which helps individuals and families in crisis, by providing emergency food supplies. We have direct access to support from Allerdale Citizens Advice who can provide immediate advice and a food voucher which will let you take food away there and then.

Our volunteers are very friendly and will welcome you with a cuppa and a biscuit (Covid restrictions allowing).  They don’t ask difficult questions so don’t be worried or ashamed about coming in – you don’t need to have made an appointment, you can just turn up.

You are not alone

The North Lakes Foodbank has more than 125 care professionals (e.g. Debt councillors, Medical teams, Social Workers, Housing support teams, Childrens’ support teams, Church and Community/Charity Workers, Probation Service etc) who are ‘voucher holders’ and you may be in contact with one of them already. They are well placed to understand your needs and can issue a voucher which you can bring to Wigton or any other of the Foodbank centres and it will be exchanged for food. You can follow this link for more information about getting help.

You are not alone – the North Lakes Foodbank supported the equivalent of over 6,800 people with three day’s of food in the last 12 months across all of Allerdale and much of Copeland; approximately one third of these were children. There are other centres at Maryport, Cockermouth, Workington, Whitehaven & Egremont.

How you can help

We are also a food collection point for the Wigton area, so please feel free to drop in with any non-perishable (tinned, dried etc. but not fresh produce) items that we can then use in putting our food boxes together.  If you’d like to join our awesome team of volunteers or just want more info about the Foodbank, hit the button below:

Other options

There are 2 other local food pantrys that can help with food distribution.  These work differently from the Food Bank.  You won’t need to prove your circumstances (income etc) and they are open to everyone.  You go and select the food you need and make a donation – whatever you can afford.
