Aspatria

a town of history

There has been a settlement here for over 3000 years, growing from a few houses on the site of this Roman road, to a thriving market town of today. There is a long history of industry here, including mining and rail.  There are stunning views from many parts of the town across to the Lakeland fells or over towards the Scottish mountains.

Methodist Church

Aspatria and its surrounding villages hosted a number of Methodist chapels, and these were brought together to worship in the current building that sits at the centre of the community.  As well as weekly worship opportunities, we run a number of community services (coffee mornings, soup lunches etc) that aim to tackle issues of isolation and loneliness.  We work closely with our neighbours, the people of St Kentigern’s Church of England.

Style of worship

Worship at Aspatria provides a traditional style of Methodist worship with spoken prayers, readings from the Bible and a talk.  Songs are led on the organ and are usually traditional hymns, with the occasional modern song.  There is sometimes a children’s talk.
